2026 Frog Log - Week 3

Now that the frogspawn has arrived, the frog pool will be a regular stop on our bog walks.

While it hasn't changed much since last week, there definitely seem to be more clumps of spawn now.

The first image shows a large clump of spawn that was laid in pool that is lined with sphagnum moss.

2026 Frog Log - Week 2

We began monitoring the pools at Stormanstown Bog for frog mating activity in late February, but unfortunately we missed the initial activity. While the frogs themselves were gone, we found several clumps of frogspawn in the High Bog area. Interestingly, while the spawn was concentrated in just one pool last year, it is now spread across most of them in that area.

Next year, we'll make sure to begin monitoring sooner so that we don't miss anything.
